THE METHOD

How it works

Enter an amount, the GST rate and whether the sale is within one state or between states. Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, and a small list of luxury and demerit goods at 40%. Check the rate for your specific item in the official rate schedules.

FormulaAdd GST: total = price × (1 + rate). Remove GST: price = total ÷ (1 + rate). Within a state, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST.
ASSUMPTIONS

Assumptions and limits

  • You choose the GST rate. The calculator does not look up which rate applies to a particular item.
  • Within one state the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST in a union territory); between states it is IGST.
  • Compensation cess and other levies are not included.
  • Results are estimates based on the inputs and assumptions on this page, not professional advice.
  • Try this: in the example above, a 10% rise in “Amount (₹)” changes the result by +10.0% and a 10% rise in “GST rate (%)” changes the result by +1.5%. Use “Save scenario A”, change one input and compare the two results side by side.
SOURCES

Official sources

GST rates are set by the GST Council and can change. Check the official rate schedule for your item before relying on a result.
