THE METHOD

How it works

Temperature scales have different zero points as well as different step sizes, so conversion is not a simple multiplication. Water freezes at 0 °C (32 °F) and boils at 100 °C (212 °F) at sea level. Absolute zero is 0 K, or −273.15 °C, and nothing can be colder.

Formula°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32; °C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9; K = °C + 273.15.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

How is the result of the “Temperature converter” calculated?

°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32; °C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9; K = °C + 273.15.

What does the worked example show?

With temperature 100, from Celsius (°C), to Fahrenheit (°F), the 100 °c equals is 212 °F. Celsius: 100 °C; Fahrenheit: 212 °F; Kelvin: 373.15 K.

What assumptions and limits apply?

This is an estimate based on the inputs and assumptions shown on this page, not professional advice. Check anything with financial, health or safety consequences independently.

Is my data private?

Yes. Calculations run in your browser and your numbers are not sent to a server. A share link contains the inputs you choose to share, so check it before sending it to anyone.

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply by 9, divide by 5 and add 32. For example 20 °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 68 °F.

At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?

At −40 degrees.
